Tattoos and Archaeology: Symbols, Identity, and Material Culture
- 5 hours ago
- 1 min read
What do tattoos and archaeology have in common? More than you might think.
Join us at the Westmoreland County Museum for a unique program exploring how identity, art, and culture are expressed and preserved across time. This session examines how archaeologists interpret designs through surviving objects such as pottery, where patterns and symbols often reflect the same visual language seen in body art traditions.
Through this process, we bridge the gap between what is lost and what remains, uncovering how meaning, identity, and cultural expression endure across generations.
This is an engaging, discussion-based session designed for those interested in history, symbolism, archaeology, and personal or cultural identity.
