Join the Westmoreland County Museum for two days of community volunteer work as we help preserve one of our most unique historic landscapes—the Presidents' Garden.
Designed in 1941 by renowned Virginia landscape architect Charles F. Gillette, the Presidents' Garden is a living part of the museum's history. Gillette was one of Virginia's most influential landscape architects, known for creating timeless gardens that blend formal design with historic architecture through brick pathways, carefully planned plantings, and inviting garden spaces.
Historic gardens require ongoing care to preserve both their beauty and their historical significance. During our Historic Garden Work Days, volunteers will assist with weeding, pruning, mulching, edging, and general garden maintenance to help ensure this special landscape can be enjoyed for generations to come.
Whether you're an experienced gardener, a history enthusiast, a student looking to give back, or simply someone who enjoys spending time outdoors, we welcome your help.
What to Bring To Historic Garden Work Days
Gardening gloves
Water
Hand tools (if you have them)
Comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes
Volunteers are welcome to attend for an hour or stay for the full event. No registration is required.
Help us preserve a living piece of Westmoreland County history while making a lasting impact on one of the museum's most treasured outdoor spaces.
