About the event

A.T. Johnson Museum & Westmoreland County Museum will be hosting postal historian Andrew Graff and his presentation “A History of the US Postal Service” on Thursday, July 24th from 5pm-7pm

Augmenting his talk will be examples pulled from his extensive collection of Virginia Posts from the 1700-1800s. These hand-written notes were passed between people and localities before the establishment of our present-day postal system. In the days long before email, texting and tweeting, these notes kept people tied together and relayed important information across sparsely inhabited areas of our developing country.

Mr. Graff has been collecting posts since the 1980s and has examples that will give insight into the ebb and flow of life here in Middlesex in bygone days. He grew up in eastern Virginia near Tappahannock where he gained his love of history.
